Join us October 6th, Opening Night at the James McCabe Theater for the play Bell Book & Candle Romantic Comedy that has something to say about magic.
"I'm not just referring the spells & potions that spice up the play, but the kind of magic that happens between two people, the transformative power of true love." said the director & Producer Gail Pierce.
When Gill Holroyd, (Valentina Mandrian) casts a spell on her neighbor, publisher Shep Henderson ( CJ Hashem), the last thing she expects to happen is to fall in love with him.
But the heart turns out to be the trickier than the supernatural power & the play poses some questions about identity, finding one's real, authentic self & how much is sacrificed & gained in the process.
Complications abound when Gill 's ditzy Aunt Queenie, (Ramona Montgomery) who lives 3 flights up, is unable to do her witchcraft discreetly. Nicky Holroyd, (Nick Brady), Gill's lazy & irresponsible, prankster, warlock brother comes & goes at whim & an alcoholic publisher Sidney Redlich (Ed Mason) wants to benefit from witchcraft books at the cost of them all.
Gill discovers that humanity & vulnerability, for all it's pain & messiness, provide infinite rewards.
Real magic which relies on human chemistry, trumps false magic, based on manipulation & deception, every time.
"But don't think to much while watching the play. Sit back & relax & let Bell Book & Candle cast a spell on you." said Gail Pierce Director.
